The show gets a lot more self referential and self aware as the second season goes along, which is used to both good and bad effect. The third season has been pretty solid so far. Also, Joel McHale. In the second season especially they did a lot of homage episodes; episodes in some cinematographic style which they always nail. Sometimes it is just a middling sitcom though.
