For melodic death metal, its pretty groundbreaking considering when it was released (1993!). This album, along with Slaughter of the Soul by At the Gates, essentially defined the melodic death metal subgenre. 4.5/5 - This is a mandatory extreme metal album. By historical standards, it should be a 5.0, but biased by my enjoyment it's a 4.5 instead. Excellent album, but not PERFECT for me.
