Anyone know anything about configuring firefox settings? I'm trying to allow my computer to log on to the network internet at the school I'm working for, but my proxy settings are all out of whack. What's more, they're locked, so I can't change them. Further, I can't access the "local-settings.js" file which is supposedly where I'm supposed to be able to unlock them. I've been reduced to using my phone as a hotspot, or plugging in with a network cable which are both amateur moves. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
I've probably asked before, but can where can we find the idkfa posts of olde? (Josh: Don't you tell me some silly nonsense like "You can't." because I know you can.)
Help needed! What non-itunes program should I use to rip my cd collection to my hard-drive? Needs to be easy (12 year old John is going to do a lot of them), and will need to be playable on google play music and apple devices. Would prefer to maintain as much quality as possible, and I don't mind paying a little for good software if needed. Thanks all!
Why do we go through the bother of putting drywall and joint compound on walls, which create a 1-hour rated firewall, if all we're going to do is spray super flammable wall texture on the walls? Cause if you read the MSDS, that shit doesn't become not-flammable.
Josh, TimeMachine will not connect to my NAS. Error is:
"There was a problem connecting to the server "ScrotoNAS(TimeMachine)".
The server may not eist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
I can connect to my NAS via the interface, have ensured that TimeMachine is enabled and probably configured. So it's something with TimeMachine or network settings on the computer end.
I did a little research, see here (forum.qnap.com). I don't quite understand their fix. Can you enlighten me? Thanks buddy.
Should I sell my 2002 Honda Civic (manual) and buy my parents' 2007 Hyundai Elantra (automatic)?
We're only bringing one car down to California, and Dave can't drive stick shift because of his leg. Logically, it'd make a lot more sense to sell the Honda and get a car that both of us can drive...
But selling my Honda (whose name is Greta, by the way), my chariot of 10 years, feels akin to getting rid of the family dog.
Any suggestions?
If you let a Nissan Leaf draw down to half charge, and assume a conservative estimate for the circuit's charging efficiency, it costs somewhere around $2.50 to top it back off to full charge.
Given the stated range of 100mi/full charge, assuming a linear relationship between % charge and range (probably the weakest spot in my logic here), half-charge probably gets me (& my driving style) about 30 miles. Which equals out to about $0.08 per mile.
My truck, with a 21 gallon tank, about 15 mpg in the summer, and a city range of about 315 miles, costs approximately $0.28 per mile if gas is $4.15/gallon.
If I consider only the cost of fuel (nevermind maintenance, insurance, and all that jazz), and I don't sell my truck, and make the Leaf my primary driver when the roads allow it, I would have to drive 150,000 miles to recoup the cost of buying a Leaf.
I've had my truck almost 5 years and I've only driven 44,000 miles.
It was a fun thought.
This sounds legit as hell (www.sciencedaily.com), but I'm not exactly keen on what they're describing here. It sounds like they've identified a plausible storage mechanism for information within 'microtubules' within brain cells.
Can anybody comment?
Gotta crowd-source this one, because it is bugging the hell out of us:
What TV jingle from out childhood ended, "...they're naturally delicious!"
I can sing the melody for you if you want.
Hey all. I have four things to ask, the first & second being the most important. Josh, can you make my username "T$"? I mean seriously, why is two characters too short?
Thirdly, what personal finance software do y'all use? And how much do you like it? Megan and I are trying to figure out what's good and what's not.
Thanks for the help, and Josh, you seriously need to look into those first two questions.
Old Man Travis is turning 30 in about a month and I need to throw a party for him. Any suggestions on what to do for a 30th bday party?
The first thing that came to mind was an 80's themed party because he was born in 1981, but that just seems too easy. I could still go with that, but was wondering if people had better ideas. There's always the black/over-the-hill theme, too, but I feel like that's better suited for a 40th bday.
I'm thinking a keg and beerpong are needed, too.
I've got an eye appointment on Wednesday. I'm getting my eyes checked because I haven't in a few years, and because I sort of need new glasses. These ones are tired. And battered. And old. And not very stylish.
Being that I've had these ones since around the 8th grade, this is a weighty decision, as I might have the next pair for at least as long. Any recommendations? Stuff I should look for? Particular brands, or, brands to avoid? Special finishes? Special features? (night vision, telescoping lenses, etc.)
Any input would be appreciated.
so.... what are you watching tonight? The premier of Falling Skies or the finale of Games of Thrones?
Why have so many huge hotels inexplicably popped up around Anchorage in recent years?
Perhaps it hasn't been quite so sudden, or I'm just super unobservant, or I only notice now that I drive C Street every day. But from what I understand, tourism in Alaska has been in decline the last few years, and I've yet to identify another industry that requires huge amounts of temporary lodgings.
Here's what I mean:
Does anyone have a large trampoline I can disassemble and borrow? Like the 10'-ish diameter kind?
A related question: does anyone want to climb Flattop carrying bits of a disassembled trampoline?
So the wife and I are attempting the next step in becoming real adults. Not just the fake ones we've been pretending to be the last few years. We're looking into buying a house. So the question I pose to those of you people who have taken this leap in the last few years is there any advice you have to share? Any first steps we should take or hints as to what kind of cash we actually need lying around to make this shit work?
In general we're pretty lost on what to do next or really if we should, and the internet is kind of a confusing place when it comes to decent info.
Where can I buy locally-raised or locally-hunted meat?
I've just read "Eating Animals" and have decided that ease of access isn't worth animal torture and genetic monstrosities. "Omnivore's Dilemma" set the scene, and "Eating Animals" pushed me over the edge into near-vegetarianism.
Does anyone know of an apartment to rent that allows cats? Dave and I have to move out in May/June (our landlords are selling the duplex)....
