Man, Justin Timberlake/Lady Gaga SNL ranks up with some of the best episodes I've seen (even if the current cast is a bit lacking, except for that one chick from Bridesmaids). Those two (especially JT, man!) are both pretty talented, and, through Libby's Gaga fangirlism, I'm growing more partial to her as time goes on (as far as pop goes - plus, Gaga doesn't lip sync). You should watch the online clips if you can, they pulled out all the stops for this episode (season finale), including resurrecting some great matchups (JT and Andy Sandberg, JT and Jimmy Fallon, JT and NSYNC lol).

What happens when one of the world's leading violinists, who owns and plays on a perhaps priceless violin, imitates a busker and plays in a subway for a bit?

An interesting/disturbing video on pedigree dog breeding: http://www.youtube....atch?v=GhXHFOrBbEc (www.youtube.com)

Warning: I was almost physically sick watching this. They lead with segments of a few breeds of dogs that are subject to high probability of seizures, or suffer from genetic abnormalities where their skulls are too small for their brains. It is heartbreaking.

The video basically says that pedigree dog breeding, specifically breeding done by those for dog shows, etc., is becoming exceedingly dangerous and unhealthy due to irresponsible inbreeding practices (cases like mother to son, grandfather to granddaughter). Additionally, traits that are normally considered abnormalities are intentionally bred into certain dog breeds to meet public perception of what a dog breed "should be," and healthy dogs (that don't exhibit ridged backs, or specific coloring) are neutered or culled.

The video also shows how certain breed's skulls have been warped over 100 years of breeding, as well as what certain breeds used to look like as opposed to what they look like now. Both examples are very disturbing. I wish they'd provided more detail, but they cite that for "certain" breeds, only 10% of their distinct genetics exists today from what they were only 40 years ago.

I don't have pets, and likely won't in the near future. But watching this, I feel that the choice to have breed X of a certain animal is increasingly an unethical choice.

If any of you feel the need to punish yourselves for your sins, I suggest attending an elementary school music performance. Nothing like 100 1st and 2nd graders singing about their home state with almost religious fervor. At least they weren't singing Justin Beiber.

Kiddie performances and talent shows make me cringe. Big time. Like I told JD last night, as 1st graders skipped down the aisles of the school gymnasium while their music teacher told the crowd how proud he was of teaching the kids to skip...

"This is almost as creepy as clowns"

I am pretty sure this makes me a bad parent.

Oh man. The worst part about looking through family photos, particularly ones of when you were much, much younger: how many awesome toys you've forgotten about.

Wow... it has been a long time since I have logged into here. Life has been so busy recently! But, what better place to announce to all the Alaskans I care most about that I am going to be in town from the early morning of May 19 to the night of May 24. I will be in Talkeetna for a wedding during the evening/night of the 21st, and I might be doing something with my parents during the day on the 22nd, but other than that, I'm around and would love to see anyone who is around and has time!

For anyone coming down in two weeks to Portland, what would it take to convince someone to fly down (and I really don't care if its cold) a Lucky wishbone Pops meal?

I've been wanting that shit sooo badly.

Also would anyone be interested in seeing how far we can climb the local volcanic giant Mt Adams? Schedules depending, I was thinking of attempting the climb some time that weekend. It would basically just require snowshoes though crampons/axes recommended and no roping up needed.

This is the second time I've had the garage door folks out to look at my door. The issue is that, somewhat randomly, the door will get hung up at the top, and the operator's force sensor, in trying to get it around the curve of the tracks, binds a little and will make the operator think it's hitting something, and back the door into the open position. This is a frustrating thing to happen just as you're leaving for work

I had somebody out last week. Their solution was to turn down the force sensor. While maybe not the best solution, it appeared to have solved it for a few days.

This Tuesday, it happened again, forcing me to shove the garage door down its tracks.

Having the more senior guy out today, he adjusted the tracks slightly, giving the wheels a little more breathing room around the corner. The real problem, however, wasn't the rails.

As he was packing up, the guy apologetically said, "Who was it that did this original work? Tall, skinny guy? Yeah. I sorta mourn this guy's work... take a look at that wiring."

He showed me a series of wires that connected the operator to the laser sensor. "See those? I put on those wire caps. Previously, those were bare wire, and when the rail would vibrate slightly, it would sometimes make contact, making the operator think the laser sensor had been tripped."

I laughed, signed the paper he handed me, and wished him good day. Hope it's fixed.

so.... I've started a blog and I'd really like feedback from people. I have no idea what I'm doing (of course, being almost completely computer illiterate). Unfortunately it's all about my profession, which isn't interesting to many people, but if you guys could give me any input on layout etc, I'd really appreciate it!

I blew my clutch and flywheel on my truck in January after 31,000 miles. (When I drive alone or without something in the load bed, I drive like I stole it.) That necessitated replacing both of those.

Last month, March, my truck had some problems related to firing the spark plugs. The engine would go haywire and the RPMs would spike all over the place. The shop said that the crank arm position sensor faulted, which meant the computer didn't know when to fire the cylinders. Quick electronics fix.

Last week, the exact same combustion problem surfaced. I took it back to the shop, and the same technician who fixed my truck in January and March spent all day Friday with it just diagnosing problems. Turns out he improperly installed the flywheel. Apparently it has a several magnets in it that need to be properly lined up when installed, and he didn't do that when he fixed it in January.

So, I don't have to pay for it. This all just goes to show that once you take something apart and start fiddling with the bits, it never gets put together back in the same way.

This is mostly for Erik and Aaron.

This is the saddest day I've known in a while. There is very little I get as obsessive and excited about at food. The guy somehow found a way to my soul with his burgers. They were the type of food that I could not resist and always had to go back for more. I have probably been to this particular burger place more than I have ever been to any single other non fast food eatery in my whole life, which says a lot as this place was not cheap.

My most sincere condolences to all of his family and friends. He was a good guy and a great chef.

I don't know if any of you guys knew Monty Dickson at Service. (I went to school with him from 1st grade-6th grade, and 10th-12th. He was class of '02 with me.) Monty was living in Rikunzen-Takata in the Iwagi province of Japan and working as a teacher. He was last seen heading into the town center of Rikuzen-Takata after the quake and before the tsunami. The tsunami wiped Rikuzen-Takata off the map completely. YouTube videos of the town during the tsunami show the story. The wave was well over 80 feet at the town, and people know that because that was the height of tallest building, and it was fully engulfed and destroyed by the tsunami. He is still listed as missing.

So, considering the number of weddings coming up in this group of friends, I figured there must be others besides me in the midst of trying to find a wedding dress. For those of you doing the same, how is your hunt going? And by that, I actually mean, please give me advice because I can't find anything I like that doesn't cost an amount I am simply unwilling to pay!

My constant companion for the past five years is set to expire this Friday. I morn its passing with a most unsatisfying new beginning. After some 8 years of not actually living in Alaska I am finally getting my Washington drivers license. In fact, I did so this morning with one of the nicest DMV guys I've ever had to meet. Goodbye sales tax exemption.

ASU still has an email forward set up for me. I'm not exactly sure how it's still in there almost 4 years after I stopped paying them money, but it's there regardless. Given how I've seen email managed at my own work, it really shouldn't come as a surprise.

What's fun is on occasion, I get random emails from ASU students and teachers. In particular, numerous nursing school students keep emailing me questions, study guides, etc. When somebody emailed me once asking if their PowerPoint slide looked alright, I emailed back saying it looked fine, and offered commentary on their font choice.
