Morning View

- one of my favorite albums of all time.

avatar

http://kenandrebeccaellen.com/xmas-lights/ (kenandrebeccaellen.com)

I've never found this before, but this is hilarious. One of my favorite bits is down in the FAQ's:

"Q: "This thing is broken. I can't see anything!"

A: Internet Explorer is the worst web browser ever created. Use Firefox (www.getfirefox.com) or Chrome (google.com)."

Finally, someone understands, and threw IE under the bus.

avatar

That is so awesome.

Corelia

- for a self-produced EP, this album blows my mind. The technicality is pretty impressive.

avatar

This is like Protest the Hero meets 3 meets Tesseract with the occasional growly bit from BTBAM thrown in, for those playing at home.

I felt Desolation of Smaug was pretty decent.

avatar

i cant wait!

avatar

I'm worried it'll be a repeat of the Two Towers for me. That said I'm still looking forward to seeing it over christmas break.

avatar

It was at least 5 times better than An Unexpected Journey, although it was still overly long. This is a movie I could stand rewatching, whereas I will probably never get through An Unexpected Journey again (in on sitting).

YES LOVE IT SO MUCH YES

avatar

Apparently this is the first in a series of many, many trance compilations. My particular version seems to have extended cuts of the songs, meaning that I could have really used some ecstasy when listening.

3.0/5 - Good, for trance drenched in '90s beats and melodies. Real McCoy could have had a field day with any of these beats. One of these nights I'm going to get blasted and dance around to this naked around my apartment.

avatar

i have vol 1 thru 5!!

avatar

I can only assume you used these to get IN THE ZONE for CS back in the day.

avatar

yes, twas much the source of much burnination.

The 416d65726963612043616e20436f646520 Act of 2013 (cardenas.house.gov).

Classifies programming languages as "critical foreign languages," that would "create a competitive matching grant program for schools, particularly those in low-income areas, to create new ways to teach computer science and engineering, in tandem with universities and non-profits."

Everblack

- debuted at #32 on the Billboard 200, lol.

avatar

Artpop

- I wish this was Darkpop.

avatar

Bela Fleck guest, nice.

avatar

I also own some Victor Wooten albums - Palmystery, Yin-Yang, Soul Circus.

avatar

Victor Wooten is so sick. Palmystery is pretty damn good if I remember correctly. It's been probably a decade since I listened to it, though!

avatar

I remember watching him play at a First Tap. Even seeing it live was just amazing. Total disbelief.

avatar

/jealous

avatar

You know David Grisman Quintet played a First Tap too, right?

I was at that one too.

Mondo Cane

- yeah, Mike Patton covers Italian pop from the '50s and '60s, so what?

So I'll be in Anchorage from the 21st to Jan 4th. I think this year my visiting family schedule will be a lot less hectic which may actually leave me with some free time. So I propose an outdoor adventure.

So those of you who remember the bitter cold of our last outing and the technical mistakes that made it pretty difficult to eat, have fun, want to continue living, or like me end up with giant ass blisters on my heels because I wore shitty boots. Not sure if this year will be more friendly to our cause, but I'd be interested in giving it a try.

Also I have to say I've never even heard of this but it sounds hella amazing and I'd love to try it some day. The Eklutna traverse (chugachpeaks.com) is like a way more badass crow creek pass trip. And for the most part there's cabins all along route which are really neat looking, but it does mean a lot of glacier travel.

avatar

That Eklutna traverse looks awesooooome. I know you own most of the necessary equipment, but I'd definitely have to rent a ton!

Anyhow, it'd be fun to get out, if even for just a day trip. What dates? weekend after Xmas?

avatar

Yeah i think the weekend after Christmas is my best bet. Not sure where to go, probably somewhere out of glen alps again. Maybe up towards rabbit lake? Though back towards Willawa lakes was pretty decent. Pretty much don't care where I go so long as I go, and of course I will probably need to adjust any plans depending on conditions anyway.

I have everything one would need for the Eklutna traverse, and depending on your foot size enough for two people even, because now I have extra plastic boots provided you wear something in the 10-11 range. Otherwise AMH rents the ski's and a climbing helmet. By the way I plan on bringing some of my climbing gear with me, mostly because I was able to play around on some waterfall ice a couple weekends ago and it was way fun. But ice is pretty hard to find here in the cascades and I figure it might be easier to find some out of Anchorage while I'm there. So if you're slightly interested in maybe have the opportunity to try something I can in fact bring some extra gear up. A proper stove will be my number 1 priority and I have one I don't have to worry about flying with now.

avatar

You can just take my jetboi-uh...ohhh. Oh.

avatar

I get bad feelings about glaciers.

avatar

its a cinch

avatar

These animals are goddamn terrifying. (www.youtube.com) I expect this is just a sampling of what the Cretaceous offered.

avatar

And that's its *mating* dance.

We Are All Where We Belong

- Yeah, time for some indie emotionalism.

avatar

Finally got around to rating this beast of an album (I say beast, because apparently I purchased the edition with extra tracks... and it clocks in at over an hour and a half!). In any case, this album is the definition of beating a dead horse. While the music is generally pretty good, this self-proclaimed breakup album with religion just goes on lyrically far too long on this one theme. While I generally appreciate songs with this theme, it became too much even for me... WE GET IT. In any case, the best songs are strong enough to save this album from being a complete chore to listen to.

2.5/5 - Average indie release. The strong songs keep this from being below average.

Broke my goddamn glasses cleaning them after sitting down for work.

avatar

i did that ~18 months ago, which is why I bought the pair i'm wearing now.

same situation - sat down at work, went to clean them, SNAP right in the center

avatar

I'm glad I work close to home. Otherwise, it would have been a squinty day in front of the LCDs.
