I already said as much on twitter, but I think the Book of Mormon album is kind of appalling. I mean, it's funny and the lyrics are good I guess, but the music isn't interesting and I wouldn't want to listen to it independent of the stage production. Everyone I know who has seen it loves it and it will obviously win the Tony this year, and I don't think it is a bad show per se, but I don't really want to listen to the album.

Obviously there is the sense of parody and pastiche in the music, and I get it, but the best musicals are ones which I want to listen to over and over again, and this isn't one of them.

Now I'll let this post die in obscurity, because I don't think there is probably anyone who wants to debate the finer points of the American musical theatre canon with me.
