Probably had to be that way, as part of the contract to get this guy to play as part of the "experiment". I think another issue is that it would be hard for me to appreciate violin "genius" because I almost never listen to violin. If it were a guitar virtuoso, though, I almost always listen for a sec to judge skill before passing on.
