As to your question, hell if I know. I keep a pistol in my bedroom, unloaded, and in its case. I don't really know why. The situation you propose would be the ideal scenario: you performed an act in defense of yourself and loved ones. I'm not confident that whatever situation would arise would be that ideal, cut or dry. You have years of weapons and psychological training, experience to deal with those situations. I have trouble staying ahead of laundry.
