I always like the CarTalk method of testing your clutch. Park against a tree and see if your car dies when you let out the clutch. A nice big stout tree.

Not that I am basing this on in depth research or anything, but I think even 50-60K sounds pretty low for this sort of thing. My old Subbie went a loooong time without having the clutch replaced;

If you have a blown clutch your car will continue to run. If your clutch is still good it'll pop and kill the engine like a good little manual should. Simple.
